My Coloring Method
For Images From Nothing

Our final challenge was to make Art with a transparent 25x100 Gif
I was getting thin colors and wondered if I could find a way to utilize the intense colors that appear around the edge of an imploded circle
I started off resizing, coloring the transparency & comping at an angle or two, just trying to get some color generated.
Don't add a lot of color (2 to 4 are plenty, otherwise when you comp it becomes an over colored mess, especially with comp/difference), colors will happen as you comp.

I used the above piece for over 50% of the images I posted for Tigerlily's "Big Bang" Challenge. I don't know why I chose these colors but they were more than perfect. No matter what I did, great stuff seemed to happen.

I went in with the original url & no color.
Resized to 50x100
went to composite and put a green in the BG box
(probably "darkslategray")
comped the original at an angle and added the gold on the next page.
Output, got url , went back and resized to 50x200, added the blue and comped over, creating image #1.

After outputting as jpg and getting the url for #1, I resisized to 100x200!
Went to composite and got this:

#2
1st

Using image #1:
Comp/Dif Rotate 15
Comp/Dif Rotate 25

Next I went to FX.
Implode 1
Implode -15
Resize 260x300!
Crop 257x297+0+0

By using implode +1 first and then a negative implode, I seem to get bits of even stronger color around the circle and sometimes better yet, splashes of color around the edge. I usually negative implode between -6 to -25 (I get trippier edges when I use higher #s but it's more to hide). Another factor here is the color your center will pck up from the original at different sizes of negative implode.
The reason for cropping 3 pixles off the right side and bottom are the bits of white that appear on those edges after imploding, waving or swirling.

Now so it doesn't look like an implode circle, I Output, get the URL and go back in and do Comp/Dif at a few different minor angles (usually from 355 - 330 degrees to 10, 20 to 30; sometimes I'll do 45s or 90s if things haven't gotten too busy). With comp/dif and using +/- in the location box along with the minor rotates, the point is to get a larger area with the intense colors of the outer part of the imploded circle. Then one of those times I'll comp with displace either at a minor angle or 180.

For this example I'll take image #3 and comp/dif itself:
Comp/Dif, Location +0+20, Rotate 15
Comp/Dif, Location +0+40, Rotate 15
Comp/Dif, Location +0+60, Rotate 15
Comp/Displace, Rotate 90, Location +0+0

I kinda like this so I'm going to output, get url, go back & crop out an area of the southeast to save before I go further back and try something else.

#4a
Cropped SE area of #4
1st

Crop 100x200+140+60
Resize 230x260
I see a few ways I might like to play with this, but later.
Click on the image to see what I did with it "later" by compositing it over an enlarged trans. gif

Now I'm going back to just before the 90 degree Displace and change that step to Comp/Difference, Rotate 90
BUT, This time I'm going to put the url of the Displaced image in the URL box.
Here's what I got:
#5
1st

This particular result I like as is or I could easily make 3 or 4 different images from it. With out going crazy I made a couple quick addiiions to this result:
#5a
1st

Cropped 15 off top and bottom
257x267+0+15
Resize 270x310!
Equalize

#5b

Crop 257x267+0+15
Resize 270x310!
Normalize
Shade 110%
Sharpen 5x5

I know this is a bit dark (nothing another Normalize won't cure
I was going to put more sharpen and God knows what else to this, but I output at this point because I may want to use parts of this, as it is, to comp with #5

#5c
1st
Just had to add a couple more
I went back in with #5
Did Comp/Displace, Rotate 180

#5d Owl
1st
I went back in with #5b
Flop
Comp/Dif +100+0
Sharpen 5x5

In general, I think the colors I get are incredible and the possibilities endless.

I get areas of intense color that I can crop out and enlarge without losing much density. I hope my explanations are clear.

I never really do it the same exact way. Just keep your 3 color starter image simple and once you start comping the imploded images over itself always try different angles and don't forget to try displace once in a while.

Sometimes I replace color to the white areas left from displace (which it didn't this time), someimes I just crop out a piece. Sometimes I get real lucky and there's a few areas I think are worth cropping out to work on as separate images later.

May this give someone else the enjoyment I got from it.
It has been so fun! I just keep getting these wonderful surprises.
